The other side of digital
Its digital, so shoot as many as you want, says the photographer in me.
Its digital so try out as many ideas as you want, says the designer in me.
Its digital, so anything which does not seem obviously nonsense gets published in my blog.
I, the PC user, select ‘Save as’ by reflex; give a random file name, and store it in my desktop. Once my desktop starts resembling Ranganathan street, I create a folder called ‘Desktop_backup
All the printers in IT offices are abused. We talk about paperless offices but the work space is full of papers. We print multiple copies of 100 pages of nonsense everyday.
It can be digital but we fail to realize the strain and costs involved in making someone read an unwanted mail. In short, we do more but think less. I think subconsciously we realize this and that’s precisely why we, the consumers of this digital era are so restless and discontented with ourselves. Wait. I think you get the picture. That’s enough for now.
Do whatever your thinking mind says.

dude…We just finished implementing a multi-million $ project for all the Fossil Hydro power stations in our company - The users are expected to view a scorecard/dashboard type of screen through a web browser to get weekly/monthly plant performance information - like MW, Oil/Coal burning costs, etc… its a slick tool, I must say… but guess what, right after the project was implemented… like a few days into the learning curve timeframe, the ‘power users’ go - “we cant ask our manager to look at this screen… We need to be able to print this screen and put it on his desk.”
so much for technology… people just dont care about paper wastage, recycling etc… there are people who still print out an entire how-to-do self-help manual from a pdf document although for all practical purposes they will be using only a couple…maybe a few pages in their bleedin lifetime! nitwits! (vaaila romba bad words varudhu….adakkifying
)
about your camera-file-save problem - I may have misunderstood what you are doing… but don’t digital cameras come with content management software? You can automatically set it up so that every time you hook up your camera to the pc it will download only “new” pictures, by comparing what is already on the “preset” folder, which will be “watched”…
I am not sure if you are doing this…because most of the ‘tech-geeks’ like us don’t usually install custom s/w unless it does something profoundly valuable…right?
so, forgive me if I misspoke, didnt mean any offense.

reg. paper wastage, ulaga maga kodumai.
the administration save on projectors but don’t care abt papers. meetings can be handled with projectors. lack of projectors make ppl to print 1 quire notes for every meeting by each member.
reg. digital images.
- i do not have custom software so what u say is news to me. i read somewhere that the s/w that comes from nikon consumes lot of RAM.. adhu naala install e pannalai.
but what i meant was a larger problem. its like.. edhukum irukattum nu desktop la oru version save pannuradhu.. aprom 6 months kalichu… yen yenda file edhuku save panninom ne theriyadhu.. delete pannavum no guts.. so move it to a desktop-folder.
enakku therila.. i think we get too paranoid about lost data. i lost my hard disk sometime back. yeah i lost some good pics but heck, the world did not stop. konjam overa alatikarom nu dhaan thonudhu.

Old habits die hard!!!
Ever since i passed out from college i have been only typing, seems like i forgot to write with a pen or pencil. Even if i start to write with a pen beyond 30 words my knuckles start to hurt!!! Guess it is quite painful to get used to the digital world!!

hey prabhu: ‘Old habits die hard’ comment was referring to Zep’s comment of people still printing out an online manual or the boss having to need to look at a print out in the digital age.
