Open ‘Pension’ Source
Ladies and gentlemen, I hereby present a link to the pension details of the TNEB website.
Once you are in the website, you will find a field called PPO number. You are free to type any five digit number and you will get to see the pension details of one actual pensioner in TNEB holding such PPO number. So much for Right to Information Acts.
While I definitely laud the TNEB in making information accessible to everyone, I am not sure if it had to be taken to such a level (Web 3.0?).
I thought long and hard before disclosing to the public. Neither the TNEB nor the ones who administer the site are kids. So I do not think they need my advice nor my good intentioned mails. If they can keep their salary confidential, I hope they can empathize with the pensioners’ need to keep his or her pension details confidential as well. I would be really surprised if any decent number of TNEB pensioners actually look for their details in the TNEB website? Why disclose information when there is no need? What I find here is unmistakeable and utter disregard for the sensitivity of information for their own ex-employees.
I wish they close this section ASAP and fire the guy responsible for this section of the website. God alone knows about the status of other State Government run organisation websites.

I have been hitting numbers here and so far 3/3 got pensions of real people..
not that it makes any sense other than I know that there is a David in Chengelpet or a Shanmugam in Chetpet..
the numbers I picked were not random.. it was door numbers of houses in my street..
also the law of numbers seems to provide some anonymity here..
it is not like they give you the Social security number to match the name.. now that would be like handing you the key to their Jadagam!
all said and done, you are giving them a wake up call..
will anyone hear you?
If PK shouts on the web, will there be a noise?

I tried several more.. just to see how much I can get, and I got all attempts successful. Sigh! Even though I don’t know who they are (thankfully it doesn’t reveal the full address), I can see intruders getting a list of all the people just by writing a simple script.
They should not just fire the guy responsible writing the piece of code, but the whole team.

This is NOT suprising at all!!!
Few yrs back, I was checking the status of my mom’s passport application through the web. You get something called file number or application number (a 6 or 7 digit number) and that brings you all the details. Keep incrementing or decrementing the file number and you can find the other applicant’s details on hand… Everything including name, address, date of application and what not. That is a far more serious breach of one’s privacy.

Have you tried TN EPFO. The same is the case there. If you have your establishment’s PF Account number, you can get the list of all the payments they made during that year from the company. Check out the TNEPFO page and then try the details
