Media should be assessed too
India’s media houses rate the country’s leading educational institutions, private sector employers, banks and financial institutions, films etc. What’s more they conduct surveys on just about anything when they run short of content.
Have any of us come across a body to rate the quality and objectivity of the news portals, TV channels, magazines, newspapers in India?
The only data we have is the Audit Bureau of Circulation /Viewership ratings which says only about the commerical aspects and nothing about the quality of the content.
I think its high time we evolved a rating system on various parameters for the media houses as well.
How many of these media houses can stand the scrutiny of a truly competent and independent body?
I would love to see the likes of SUN TV, Jaya TV, Hindu, The Times of India etc kicked in the butt for biased reporting.

I agree PK. THose kind of survey would help the viewers and the ratings would give a healthy competition literally.

I’m not sure, but I think there’s something called Indian Tele Awards where tey rate the news channels. But again, f the awards r biased cant help it.

very very valid point. would be great if an independent body makes such an assessment.
very often the media assumes itself above law & everybody else.. “freedom of expression” is one of the most misused phrase in india.

In the U.S, they have F.A.I.R (Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting) - http://www.fair.org/index.php
Not a rating agency exactly, but a watchdog nevertheles…
Also, i think the view that The Hindu is biased is a big bias in itself! but thats just me

adu vera vishayam, for eg, i think thuklaq would never make the best selling chart but i respect his political analysis. why not rate that so that people who like such stuffs can read it too?
