Jeevan asked and i obliged here

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Folks, this pics may not be to everyone’s liking. Nothing too great technically and all that. I wanted to post some not so bad photos since jeevan asked for some more. Avlo dhaan :))
But stock over as of now. More when i buy my digital SLR…

In a way its criminal on my part not to have bought a tripod then. Especially for someone who loves low light stuff. Me and my friends roamed around here and there before resting the camera on a 3 ft high iron pole and covered the base with handkerchief to prevent scratches to the camera bottom.. on the other hand it was amusing to find people merrily clicking away to their hearts content with their flash on. expecting their flash guns to cover the entire KRS was a bit too demanding i thought :)
Folks i wish to tell one thing. Photography is not about clicking. Its all about waiting.

Good designers copy, Great designers steal

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Read this interesting stuff.

Now, please don’t be put off by the title. You dont need to be a designer to enjoy this. Just like you dont need to be a music director to find out where Deva steals from :))

Thank you all for the feedback

Siddhartha - Herman Hesse

This one was highly recommended by vatsan.
He almost made me buy this book when we both roamed around Landmark last month.
Eventually bought it last week. This one sure lived to the hype. A very good one.

Me and my mediocre photography

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

Since i made a few sounds about photography in my previous posts,
Narayanan Sir wanted to have a look at my photographs:). I did not want to lose this opportunity to dump some of my age-old photographs :)). Thannadakam and restraint has never been my virtues and you, the blog reader invariably suffer because of that.

First things first, don’t expect Kaleidoscope’s quality. Adhellam no chance. Most of the photos were taken a good 10 to 15 years back and scanned conveniently at about 2000-2001. So the scanned photographs comes adorned with scratches in plenty.

There is nothing great about composition and all that. My only reason for satisfaction is that night shots were taken hand-held which is difficult by any standards.

I also have another amateur psychology theory. I somehow feel the subject matter and the composition of the photographs give a lot of insight about the photographer’s psyche. I am assuming the photographer is on his own and shoots just for personal satisfaction.

Somehow i feel my favorite photographs taken during those days have a touch of loneliness and melancholy. I maybe wrong but nevertheless this is one pet theory of mine.

If you find some photographs way too dark for your taste, blame it on one Mr. Mani Ratnam :))

Luz Church in jan ‘98. Whats so special? Nothing except this was hand-held.
Camera - Nikon FG. Film - Kodak i believe.
Was scanned after it got a thrashing. So comes with a good amount of scratches and optimisation ( those was dial-up days you see..)

My first sweetheart, Canon AE-1

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

My Canon AE-1, shot using my good old Nikon FG. this was shot using a tripod. Film was Fujicolor. I wanted an advertisement kinda effect.
After working with the legendary Canon FD lenses it has always been
” Ende Naadu, Japan, Enda mozhi, japanese mozhi, ende ….”
Unforgettable camera for 3000 bucks.

This is not one of those Color converted to grayscale using Photoshop funda..Actual b/w.shot as appa was asked to pose this way..The shot over overexposed (hence no background detail) and the studio (no labs for b/w shots) guy did an aweful job in printing. but nevertheles added to the effect :D Posted by Picasa
